Phic Phight: Good Parents

Maddie Fenton nearly kills her son trying to take down Phantom. Jack Fenton nearly kills him again, trying to tear the ghost from him.

Clockwork, one of the most powerful ghosts in existence, is tired of the people he cares about getting hurt.

(@five-rivers broke out the same prompt as 2020 and 2021 which legally means I had to update. One day I will not be contained by that. Not any time soon though. Part 1, Part 2.)

3.

Eventually, Sam and Tucker had to return home. Clockwork set up a portal for them with one of his mirrors, and before they left they informed Danny that they would be back soon, school or not. They’d exchanged several minutes of banter before leaving. Jazz, however, had chosen to ignore Danny’s protests and stay for as long as she could.

Unfortunately, that time frame was drawing to a close. Clockwork had taken the liberty of checking her schedule, and she had an unfinished research paper due at midnight tomorrow. He met her in the kitchen while she was grabbing Danny a glass of water. Clockwork tapped his staff against the doorframe before he entered to avoid startling her. “Jasmine, could I speak with you?”

Jazz glanced back at him before turning off the tap. “Sure,” she said, “and you can call me Jazz.”

“Of course. In that case, Jazz, you should contact your professors and request an extension on your paper.”

He could feel the air tense. Jazz took a deep breath in. “This is the extension.” She turned back to Clockwork. “Don’t tell Danny.”

“I wasn’t going to,” Clockwork said. “If you would like me to back you up as you contact them to say your brother’s been injured -”

“You don’t have to,” Jazz cut him off. “I’m fine. I’m almost done.”

Clockwork did not point out he knew that was a lie. With Danny’s situation, the last thing he wanted to do was risk pushing away his oldest and most active support system. “Alright.” He said simply, and moved on. “I wanted to talk to you about your parents.”

Jazz’s expression dropped to a scowl. “Right,” she said, “what’d they do now?”

“Technically, they have completed their first task -”

“Technically?”

Millions of Years of Immutable Evolutionary Law: “Cats shall have litters of many offspring at one time. Some will be weak or stricken with disease--they will perish to allow the stronger siblings to escape, and to satiate other predators in order to reduce competition and encourage the existence of more capable adults.”

No!

No no no!

Care and assistance for disabilities is not counter to evolution!

Reproductive fitness is not solely a measure of how an animal can function as an untouched unaided individual! It is not advantageous for disabled offspring to die! Social aid is as much a part of evolution as anything else! Yes, interspecies included!

The Fyre Festival guy just got out of prison after four years and he's already planning another island festival called PYRAT (pronounced pirate) which is clearly going to be Fyre Festival 2.0.

Like he is using the same vague promos as last time, featuring footage of the Bahamas, and when NBC News asked the government of the Bahamas about this they were like "NO, he does not have permission to host ANYTHING here. Please tell us if you see him in our country so we can arrest him."

sounds very similar to a radio story i heard in 2014 ago about credit card debt. the debt got sold to a collection company and a couple received a court summons. they knew they had taken on debt, but they were confused about who this new company was and where specifically the number they were supposed to owe came from.

they show up in court and just ask the lawyer for the collection company: can you prove where this number comes from? Do you have a contract showing that you purchased our debt? probably luckily for them, a reporter researching a book on the topic showed up and asked the same questions.

10 minutes later they get in front of the judge and the collection company drops the whole case and theyre free to go. story is below, it has a transcript in the link too

Oh, I love this an inordinate amount.

This guy covers children's songs in the style of various artists, and he's incredible.

I'm weirdly emotional about it?

This is amazing!

nitrogennightmare

This is the exact opposite energy of the "what happens after the camera cuts and you've destroyed you labtop for 5 seconds of entertainment"

This guy not only wrote a whole song but dressed up and FILMED it! For what! For 1 and a half seconds of MY entertainment! That must have been HOURS of shooting and editing! I'm touched, this is art

I still can't get over this, one of the most important "natural experiments" to come from COVID: https://t.co/Oso2eDVOKH It's all right there in front of us, a free lunch pathway to reducing some of the most immense cruelty in our society. pic.twitter.com/o54eIHr2AG — Dustin Palmer (@dustinbpalmer) November 11, 2022ALT

I love that the pandemic actually definitively proved a lot of those "hard" questions for us. Masking up reduced cases of the flu to almost nonexistent numbers and we had zero flu deaths for a time. The welfare and social service and unemployment programs helped keep people living paycheck to paycheck out of poverty, and those stimulus checks some folks keep complaining about actually massively benefitted the common man and the economy. Individual personal travel was so extremely restricted on a global scale that we basically have concrete proof that individual restraint in terms of driving cars or travelling means absolutely nothing by comparison because the mass pollution is coming from the fisheries and the corporations with private jets and container ships. Working from home actually has massive benefits for a company like productivity boosts and better mental health of employees while also saving gas

and we're just. Willingly going back to how everything was before. We were shown how to do things better and the people in charge said "that's nice but we just want to get everything 'back to normal' :)"

we’re not willingly going back to how everything was before. we are being forced back into it by members of the ruling class who found out that making things better for almost everyone else made them feel bad.

Cover for chapter three of @seaglass-skies's fic Take me back to the time loop.

This is probably my favorite cover of the whole batch. The gears turned out super well! Also, Clockwork and Danny having tea together is just *chef's kiss.*

Peak behind the curtain, the original sketch had them in chairs, and then I was like "wait, they're ghosts, they can just float." XD

Here's the inline illustration for this chapter as well:
